5 Things to Do in East Lothian this Easter

April 18th, 2019

Easter weekend is almost here and we’re very much looking forward to four days off! Whether you fancy a quiet weekend and Easter Sunday lunch with the family, or an action-packed holiday with the kids, here’s our pick of what to do in East Lothian this Easter.

Cadbury Easter Egg Hunt at Newhailes

What could be better at Easter time than a traditional egg hunt? Bring the kids to Newhailes House – which is just five minutes from Eskmills, on the outskirts of Musselburgh – for an Easter egg hunt with Cadbury. Follow the Easter bunny’s clues to find the hidden eggs and take home a chocolatey prize at the end! This year’s hunt has an Alice in Wonderland theme to celebrate Newhailes House’s literary connections.

Fort Douglas Easter Fun at Dalkeith Country Park

Fort Douglas Adventure Park will be transformed into an Easter wonderland this weekend, with lots of activities for the kids to get involved in. As well as an Easter egg hunt, there will also be egg painting workshops, outdoor crafting, Easter bonnet and crown making, and plenty of photo opps with the Easter bunny himself! Dalkeith Country Park is a great day out for the whole family – the grown ups can enjoy lunch and shopping at the Restoration Yard while the kids explore Fort Douglas.

Paper Memories at the Brunton Theatre

For something a little different this Easter weekend, take the kids to see Paper Memories at the Brunton Theatre in Musselburgh. The show explores the refugee experience through a child’s eyes – through aerial-dance, puppetry and music the cast share the bright and colourful memories of Tali, a refugee girl arriving in Scotland with her family.

Wonderland Big Top at Newhailes

As well as the Cadbury Easter egg hunt, Newhailes House is also hosting the exciting Wonderland Big Top this weekend. Head along to see wonderful performers at the comedy circus show inside the Big Top, then learn some circus skills at the workshop outside.

Sunday lunch at The Sun Inn

If you fancy heading out for Easter Sunday lunch with the family, why not try The Sun Inn near Dalkeith? This award-winning gastropub is the perfect place for a relaxed, delicious lunch with friends or family. The special Easter Sunday menu includes lots of mouthwatering options, but we’d opt for the traditional roast leg of lamb with honey roast vegetables, buttered cabbage, Yorkshire pudding and duck fat roasties. Yum!
