As it’s such gloomy weather at the moment, we’re daydreaming about warmer, sunnier days. Fingers crossed we’ll get a good summer! When you’re taking a break from work, here are a few of the best events and things to look forward to in East Lothian and Edinburgh this summer.
Life & Style
Edinburgh’s most stylish event is back for its second year, and this time it’s bigger and better than ever. Taking place on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th May, Life & Style offers a jam-packed programme of fashion, beauty and style events. There’s an exciting line-up of speakers on the Lifestyle Stage (including celebrity hair stylist Jason Collier, star skincare expert Charlotte Connoley and fashion director Wendy Rigg) as well as a whole host of workshops to try your hand at a new skill. Shake up a drink in the cocktail masterclasses with Badger & Co and Element, learn calligraphy with Laila Lettering or arrange the perfect bouquet with florists, Snapdragon.
There will be plenty of other things going on throughout the venue (the stunning Royal Society of Edinburgh on George Street) including express mini makeovers and manicures, a fashion show, the Interior Trends Room and much more. We’re looking forward to getting glammed up and finding out all about this year’s top style trends!

Canteen, a fantastic street food festival organised by Rogue Village, is back this summer. Held in Archerfield Walled Garden in East Lothian, Canteen will be happening on the last Saturday of every month throughout the summer. The traders and entertainment changes every month, but you’re guaranteed to get great street food, enjoy live music and resident DJs and soak up the family-friendly festival atmosphere.
Previous traders have included Shrimpwreck, Harajuku Kitchen, Meat Stack, The Crema Caravan, Umami Spice Girl, Pizza Geeks, Bostock Bakery and lots more. We can’t wait to go back and tuck into some of our favourite street food dishes, as well as meet some new traders and enjoy a great day out.

Royal Highland Show
One of Scotland’s most iconic events, the Royal Highland Show is back this summer for its 178th year. On from 21st to 24th June at the Royal Highland Centre, Ingliston, the event showcases the very best of Scottish farming, food and rural life. There’s plenty of traditional entertainment, live music and kids activities as well as classic events like the Grand Parade.
Our favourite part of the Royal Highland Show is Scotland’s Larder Live, which showcases the best food and drink Scotland has to offer. It’s a must-visit for keen foodies. There’s lots of fresh produce and artisan treats from local vendors in the marketplace, plus there are live demonstrations, tastings and talks in the Cookery Theatre from top chefs and producers.
