With Easter just a couple of weeks away, it’s time to get planning. There’s lots going on in East Lothian over Easter weekend for all the family, including Easter egg hunts, food festivals and family days out. Here’s our pick of some of the best events happening in Musselburgh and beyond to help you celebrate Easter this year.
Easter Egg Hunt at Newhailes House
On the outskirts of Musselburgh is Newhailes House, a National Trust for Scotland property surrounded by 80 acres of land. Over Easter weekend (30 March – 2 April), they’re hosting a Cadbury’s Easter Egg Hunt. Take the whole family along and enjoy a day out at Newhailes House, discovering the first signs of spring in the gardens. Kids can follow the Easter Bunny’s clues on an adventure to hunt down the chocolate treats. Entry costs £3 per child.

Canteen Street Food Festival
Canteen are hosting a special Easter edition of their popular street food festival on 31 March. Held in Archerfield Walled Garden, Canteen is East Lothian’s only street food festival. Enjoy food and drink from local producers and relax in the garden all afternoon. The festival has a family-friendly feel with music, activities and a play area for kids. Some of the traders at the Easter festival include Shrimp Wreck, Herbivore Kitchen, Meat Stack, Pizza Geeks, Haggisman, Crema Caravan and Poco Prosecco. The event is on from 12-6pm and entry is £1 for adults (children go free).

Easter Eggsplorer Trail at Tantallon Castle and Dirleton Castle
Historic Scotland venues across the country are inviting visitors to take part in their Easter Eggsplorer Trails over the holiday weekend. In East Lothian, both Tantallon Castle and Dirleton Castle will be taking part. Between 30 March – 2 April, head to either of the venues to take part in the Easter hunt. Follow the clues hidden throughout the castle to solve the puzzle and complete the challenge. The event is included in the normal admission price.

Easter Saturday at Musselburgh Racecourse
Musselburgh Racecourse are hosting a day of entertainment on Saturday 31 March. As well as horse racing, there will also be live music and entertainment, game stalls, fairground rides, face painting, and plenty of food and drink. The Easter Bunny will even be making an appearance! The event is suitable for the whole family, with the fun kicking off from 11.30am.

Easter Egg Hunt in Dunbar
If you’re in Dunbar, head to East Links Family Park over Easter weekend to take part in an Easter egg hunt. The event will be taking place from 30 March – 2 April, and entry is included with the normal admission price. Kids can hunt for the red and gold eggs hidden around the park for a chance to win a special prize at the end. As well as the Easter egg hunt, there will also be the chance to see lots of baby animals, take part in face painting and explore the park’s attractions, including a fortress play park, go karts, soft playbarn, train safari, crazy golf and trampolines.
