We’ve teamed up with Bruce Stevenson Insurance Brokers to host a fantastic “Grow Your Business” event on 4th of April here at Eskmills. Whether you’re currently a tenant at Eskmills or are based elsewhere, everyone is welcome to join us.
Running from 8am to 12.30pm on Thursday 4th April at the Eskmills Venue, the morning will begin with coffee and morning rolls, followed by interesting discussions from our expert speakers to give you top tips on how to grow your business.
The guest speakers will cover four key areas of ‘growing pains’ that all companies face sooner or later; IT, funding, insurance, and succession planning (employee ownership). On the day you’ll hear from:
Oliver Stephen of Eskmills
Oliver is MD of Colonnade Group, a property and business investor and owner of Eskmills. Oliver was previously a M&A adviser with Greenhill & Co and graduated with an MA from Oxford University.
Avril Tait of P4P Creative
Launched 18 years ago, P4P Creative specialises in the commercial property marketplace, working on behalf of a wide range of clients throughout Scotland and the rest of the UK.
Avril was instrumental in leading the company to employee ownership – following almost 3 years of research, exploration and seeking advice from Scottish Enterprise, P4P Creative became an employee owned company on 4th May 2017.
Avril’s career started back in the ’70s in the newspaper industry where she spent over 25 years. When Caledonian Newspapers acquired The Herald and Evening Times in 1992 Avril was a member of the buyout team – her 25 years was a great apprenticeship for running her own company.
Michael Hashim of Bruce Stevenson
Michael has worked in the insurance industry for the last 12 years. Focusing on the commercial sector, he has extensive experience arranging and servicing insurance accounts for a range of clients from charity and leisure to construction and manufacturing.
Michael has particular interest in guiding small businesses through growth phases and ensuring that as they grow, their insurance programme continues to adapt and perform.
Previously, Michael sat on the board of the Insurance Society of Edinburgh as a volunteer for several years before being appointed the president in 2016 – the youngest in the Society’s 100+ years history.
Graeme Davis of IT Foundations
A graduate of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Graeme worked in the electrical supply and power distribution with the Rolls Royce Industrial Power Group at the forefront of computerisation and in particular advances in Computer Aided Design.
Head hunted by an Edinburgh based computer consultancy in 1996 as system implementation manager, Graeme had overall control of the system implementation process, from design through delivery and ongoing support. In this role Graeme went on to set up and run an IT facilities management contract for a major Edinburgh printing organisation.
Graeme started IT Foundations in November 2000 to provide Technology Consultancy and Managed IT Services to businesses throughout central Scotland. A need for bespoke software development services was subsequently identified and this additional function was added to the company portfolio, which continues to go from strength to strength.

Andrew Ewing joined Johnston Carmichael in 2010, having had a varied career in corporate finance and mergers & acquisitions over the previous 13 years within a global advisory business (where he focused on owner-managed businesses), a listed plc and major UK banks. His experience spans fundraising, deal initiation, acquisitions, disposals, Management Buy Out’s and due diligence.
