An exciting new events space has opened at Eskmills. For details on how to book Christmas Parties and other events please refer to the events companies website for further information.
Returning to the Edinburgh Art Festival after last year’s critically acclaimed inaugural shows, ‘You Do Voodoo’ and ‘No More Stars’ is Polarcap with their new show ESKIMO.
ESKIMO is the launch exhibition of The Gallery at Eskmills and is the first of an annual programme of art, music, drama and dance using the beautiful outdoor space as well as the interior, creating a space for the visual and performing arts outside the traditional circuit of galleries.
The curators initial response to the gallery suggested a list of 14 artists who they felt would be suited to this particularly beautiful space and whose work, in its originality and quality, reflects the specific nature of the venue with its history of innovation and vision.
The 14 artists, ranging from the emerging to the internationally recognised are:
Graham Fagen (Scotland), San Keller (Switzerland), Iain Patterson (Scotland), Hendrikje Kuehne + Beat Klein (Switzerland), Graeme Todd (Scotland), Dean Hughes (England), Ian Hamilton Finlay (Scotland), Alexander Guy (Scotland), Gary Fisher (Scotland), and Kevin Henderson (Scotland), Norman Shaw (Scotland), Michael Windle (Scotland), Liz Adamson (Scotland), Trine Pederson (Denmark).
ESKIMO will be presented in a variety of different media including painting, drawing, digital projection, sculpture, photography, and performance.
Based in Dunbar, Polarcap aims to promote and focus an energy in East Lothian by curating original art events and exhibitions, encouraging out of city activity and drawing attention to the local area.
Polarcap aims to make connections and contexts for artists working in different media and at different stages in their careers providing a platform for artistic discussion, creative exchange and critical debate.
Liz Adamson, co-founder of Polarcap explains: “ESKIMO took its name initially as a playful response to the name Eskmills, aiming to be basically non thematic in nature and more of a response to the generous and particularly beautiful space which is available at this point in the development of the building. An open response to concerns which are both local and international in their scope, is emergent at this juncture and we anticipate that the 14 selected artist’s works will provide a counterpoint to the buildings present use and also of its industrial and entrepreneurial past, with its tradition of innovation and vision.”
Polarcap will give public talks to secondary school students and art college undergraduates as well as hosting workshops for primary school children.
Polarcap and Eskmills gratefully acknowledge the support and shared vision of East Lothian Council in the realization of ESKIMO.
