The Career Development Centre covers East Lothian, and works closely with the job Centre.

Career Development Edinburgh and Lothians, soon to be Careers Scotland, has 140 staff, 26 based at Eskmills, working with school and college students and school leavers – and their parents - to determine the most suitable post-school options for individual young people.

Careers advisory staff offer guidance to all of Lothian’s young people from S2 onwards, advising on training or educational options to meet their career aspirations.

There were 858 East Lothian school leavers in 2000. It says something for the success of the service that, in a follow-up study, only 36 were found to be unemployed.
