The River Esk Walk(4.5 mls/7km) is a pleasant flat walk that can easily start from Eskmills. Heading south (inland) along the wooded bank of the River Esk (passing the golf course) and returning along the public road through the old village of Inveresk. This walk takes in the site of the Roman fort at Inveresk, adjacent is the site where Cromwell mounted his cannon to guard the ford on the River Esk during the Civil War, and the village has many buildings of architectural interest including the Inveresk Lodge owned by The National Trust for Scotland.
This walk then returns to the wooded river bank and Station Road and Eskmills.Note:To include the full River Esk walk simply head downstream along the riverbank, through the town of Musselburgh, towards the mouth of the river and the sea where it joins The John Muir Walk along the coast.
