With the completion of the final buildings at Eskmills in summer 2004, Isertal have been making plans to gradually move Eskmills from being solely an office development into a destination in its own right.
Visitors already recognise the historical significance of the buildings at Eskmills. To build on this interest a first step has been to join the Tourist Board, and now Eskmills is online via Visit Scotland at www.visitscotland.com. Recognised as a local visitor attraction Eskmills is linked to Lothians and Edinburgh Tourist Boardwww.edinburgh.org.
July 2004 saw the instalation of the easily identified brown tourist direction signs - in place on local roads off the A1 and City Bypass.
Isertal are marketing Eskmills as an Industrial Heritage site by emphasising the buildings and their history with information boards around the location. To enhance the visitor experience further, Isertal have installed water features with low wattage lights in the courtyard, floodlighting, an art gallery and a bistro. The company is also commissioning sculptures throughout the complex.
Green Tourism is fast becoming a mainstream feature and again, Eskmills will be front runners with the geothermal heating and cooling, recycling, green energy and other features. In July 2004 Eskmills was awarded the Silver Grade Green Tourism award.
Other initiatives will soon be featured in our website.
