In the latest in our series of Meet the Tenant Q&As, we’re chatting to Christie Gillespie Consulting Engineers Ltd. Next month, they’ll be celebrating their three year anniversary of moving to Eskmills, so we found out all about what they love about working here.
Can you tell us what Christie Gillespie Consulting Engineers Ltd is all about?
Christie Gillespie Consulting Engineers Ltd (CGE) was formed in 2015 and is a bespoke civil and structural engineering consultancy providing sustainable engineering design solutions to the built environment. The business provides civil and structural engineering consultancy services in the building construction sector including the educational, residential, healthcare, commercial and industrial sectors from its offices in Musselburgh and Burntisland.
When did you move into Eskmills, and what made you choose here?
CGE has been at Eskmills for almost three years now, having moved from our Dalkeith office in November of 2016. We initially sought to move due to increases in staff numbers and chose Eskmills because of its good transport links to both to Edinburgh city centre and to our wider customer base across Scotland. Eskmills offers a range of spaces to suit an array of businesses of differing sizes; we first occupied Suite 5 on the ground floor of Stuart House with a complement of five staff but we outgrew the space by the summer of 2018 and relocated to Suite 11 on the second floor. The flexibility of Eskmills was a huge draw, along with the inter-business interactions that being located in Eskmills facilitates, especially when accompanied by tea and cake at one of the many bake sales.
What does a typical day look like at your office?
We’re an expanding team with a keen focus on client communication and delivery of structural engineering. Our office most often exudes an air of quiet industriousness. Our team of engineers and CAD technicians are most likely to be found trawling over the details of architectural drawings, calculating the risks to the structural integrity of any construction or they can be found offering clients our personalised service on sites across Scotland.
What’s your favorite thing about working at Eskmills?
Eskmills occupies a great location in Musselburgh; slightly removed from the hubbub of the town centre and close to a walkway and cycle path along the bank of the River Esk which offers us a quiet place to work while still being close enough to local amenities and transport links.
What exciting things are coming up for CGE in 2019?
We are excited to announce that we are finalists for the Midlothian and East Lothian Chamber of Commerce (MELCC) Business Awards. Christie Gillespie Ltd has been shortlisted for the accolade of Business High Growth 2019. Completing the awards application has been an opportunity to freshen up our processes, competencies, and set new goals that build on our outstanding growth to date. It has also provided the perfect excuse to look back at what our company and exceptional staff have achieved in detail. We have a lot to be excited about as we move into next year.
