Situated on the eastern edge of Edinburgh, Musselburgh is the largest town in East Lothian. It's name originates from the mussel beds found at the mouth of the River Esk. Musselburgh has a history dating back to Roman Times, and a heritage that continues to this day. The oldest golf course can be found here once frequented by Mary Queen of Scots. Scotland's oldest racecourse founded in 1816 is also in the town. Not only does Musselburgh boast strong historic links with golf and horse racing, but can also claim the oldest sporting award in existence -- The Silver Arrow. The Royal Company of Archers, who are the Queen's Bodyguard in Scotland, compete for this trophy every year.

Musselburgh also benefits from excellent communications, with rail and dual carriageway road links. Edinburgh Airport is within a 20 minute drive from the town offering a wider travel base.
