Musselburgh Town

MUSSELBURGH - The Gateway to Edinburgh Twinned with Champigny-Sur-Marne & Rosignana Marittimo The Honest Toun

Situated on the eastern edge of Edinburgh, Musselburgh is the largest town in East Lothian. It's name originates from the mussel beds found at the mouth of the River Esk. Musselburgh has a history dating back to Roman Times, and a heritage that continues to this day. The oldest golf course can be found here once frequented by Mary Queen of Scots. Scotland's oldest racecourse founded in 1816 is also in the town. Not only does Musselburgh boast strong historic links with golf and horse racing, but can also claim the oldest sporting award in existence -- The Silver Arrow. The Royal Company of Archers, who are the Queen's Bodyguard in Scotland, compete for this trophy every year.

The town offers a wide variety of facilities and shopping, ranging from leisure centres, traditional High Street shops, banks etc. to a major Tesco Supermarket 100m from Eskmills. Musselburgh also benefits from excellent communications, with rail and dual carriageway road links. Edinburgh Airport is within a 20 minute drive from the town offering a wider travel base. Extensive services to London and other European destinations are on offer.

Fort Kinnaird Park, is one of Scotland's largest retail parks and is within a few minutes drive from Musselburgh Town centre, just off the A1 city bypass. Fort Kinnaird offers a large selection of fashion, electrical and DIY outlets. Next, TopShop, TopMan, Evans, New Look, Wallis, Principles, Racing Green, Gap, Pilot, Boots, Brantano, Adams, Laura Ashley, Mothercare, Dixons, B & Q, PC World, ToysRus, Argos, and Currys, the list is extensive and being added to as the most recent phase of the park's development is completed. The park also has a 15 screen UCI multi-plex cinema, 26 lane 10 - pin bowling alley and a selection of fast food outlets and restaurants, McDonalds included. Located close by is a health and fitness complex, Living Well.
