Advanced MP3 Players
Tenant Profile
advancedmp3players.co.ukIn the past few dozen years, recorded music has moved from vinyl to tape to disk and now to compact gizmos that you can carry around
with you – whether at work, rest or play.
These small players are able to pack hours of music into their computerised innards, or – to give them their Sunday name -
portable digital audio devices.
It’s no surprise that Eskmills, once home to the leading-edge technology of the 19th century, is right there on the marketing
front line for the latest generation of MP3 players.
Advanced MP3 Players is the brainchild of Josh Welensky, newly arrived at Summers House, Eskmills – a young Musselburgh man who
has had to pack in design college to cope with the demands of what was a part-time business.
The business is entirely internet-based – at, where else,
advancedmp3players.co.uk- with buyers from both the UK and overseas
able to choose and buy on-line.
The idea came to Josh in 2001 when he was looking to buy an MP3 device for himself, and realised that there was no one internet site
he could visit and compare products and prices
That led him to set up his own site, importing MP3 devices from such places as Hong Kong, Korea and the USA, processing orders at home
and sending them out to buyers from his spare bedroom.
Orders are now coming in from such places as France and Hungary and as far north as Scandinavia, with the business generating a
growing level of sales – as well as a 16-hour workload.
Although Josh has had to give up college, he wants the business to grow still further, employ a few staff – and give himself the
luxury of completing his Edinburgh College of Art education!
Not a bad advertisement for Musselburgh’s entrepreneurial spirit and for Eskmills’ enterprising tradition.
